I wish that detroit's monorail was extended further to branch out to other areas of the city so that more people will ride it.

I think too many people still drive in to detroit. To get the city to build up it's downtown, we need more people walking.

We are with you on that one! We would love to extend our route, but it all boils down to $$$. There is no governmental funding available at this time. If the private sector would like to invest in Detroit's future, we are willing to explore any plan that makes sense. At present, there are no plans for expansion.

When I check other transportation websites like mbta or la's, I often check for what projects they are doing or have planned for the future.

For example, I check out the gold line extension project in la or the green line extension project in boston - or which station is planned to get renovated next.

I think people like to see what the next big construction plan is.

What are the main things the project is working on?

The main project we are working on now is the complete refitting of all our rolling stock and major sections of track. As a 20+ year operation, our parts can wear out and need replacement like any machine. We invested a great deal of money in updating our computer hardware and software to state-of-the-art specifications two years ago, and it is now equal to anything else out there.

As far as building and expansion, there are no plans currently on the drawing boards.

About the Greektown station, was that station there when the DPM opened in 1987 or was it built after? It looks like it was added on after the system was built.

I am coming down to Detroit for the Michigan v. Michigan State hockey game at the Joe and was planning on parking at Greektown to avoid the traffic. We want to use the Greektown station to get to the Joe. I was wondering if you could acess the Greektown station by the street? Please reply. DPM IS BEST TRANSIT SYSTEM IN AMERICA!!!

You must board the People Mover by going into the Greektown Casino Building. You can enter it from the street, but then go up the stairs, elevator or escalator to the platform level. The fare is still just 50 cents per person. Hope that this helps!

How long will it take for the track replacement to be completed? I rode the People Mover for the Michigan v. MSU game at the Joe and the tracks sounded and felt quite rough. Please reply.

The track replacement is slated for this spring/summer. We are currently seeking bids on the process and will begin ASAP. We do not have an estimated completion date as of yet.

I live in Midtown Detroit and work downtown. For my job, I have recently been to both New York and Atlanta. While their systems are obviously larger, neither come anywhere close to how clean and efficient the DPM is. The stations are squeaky clean in Detroit and I often even see cleaning staff on the trains as I am boarding. Thank you for making this system such a genuine pleasure to ride.

I would like to see the People Mover be expanded down to the New Center. That would be great if you could park downtown and ride down to the museums and the Fisher Building. I sure hope they expand it soon. It would be a great investment in a city that is coming back.
